Week 2 picks

Last week we went 3-2, so anything abover .500 this week would be a great start to the season for us.  I think we've got some good games to knock it out on.

1. Arizona (-7.5) @ UT-San Antonio
Thursday 7pm CT  |  FS1  |  San Antonio, TX

Rich Rod has this thing rolling at Arizona.  They put up 58 points and almost 800 yards of total offense last week.  I get that UTSA beat up on Houston last week, who was supposed to be pretty good, but Arizona is a whole different level.  I look for the Wildcats to win this one by 2 touchdowns.

2. Ole Miss (-20.5) @ Vandy
Saturday 3:30pm CT  |  ESPN  |  Nashville, TN

Vandy turned the football over 7 times and didn't score a single offensive point in their own stadium on a Thursday night against Temple last week.  Newsflash: Temple ain't Ole Miss.  The Rebels get back two defensive stalwarts to a unit that stymied Boise St last week in the Georgia Dome.  Vandy has given Ole Miss fits over the years, but while Derek Mason is trying to figure things out, I expect Dr. Bo and the Black Bears to absolutely destroy the Commodores.

3. Duke (-19.5) @ Troy
Saturday 6pm CT  |  ESPN3  |  Troy, AL

Troy got smacked around at UAB 38-10 last weekend, while Duke absolutely looked in mid-season form by routing Elon 52-13.  I know the game is at Troy, but Duke is in a much better position to come out and put up points on Troy's defense than the other way around.  Look for Anthony Boone to have a monster game.  Love getting this line at under 3 touchdowns.

4. Memphis (+23) @ UCLA
Saturday 9pm CT  |  PAC-12 Network  |  Los Angeles, CA

Here's a bit of trivia for you: when was the last time that the University of Memphis led the NCAA in scoring?  Never.  It's never happened.  Their 63-0 thumping of Ausin Peay was something this team really needed.  The defense looks good, and was one of the better units in the country last year.  UCLA won 28-20 at Virginia last week, a team that was coming off a 2-10 season from a year ago.  And they had to do it with defense - the defense scored 3 TDs while the offense only mustered a single touchdown.  Now, I fully expect UCLA to win this game based on talent and home-field advantage, but Memphis is a covering machine and I expect them to keep this game within a couple of scores.

5. Colorado St (+10) @ Boise St
Saturday 9:15pm CT  |  ESPN2  |  Boise, ID

Don't look now, but I think it may be a changing of the guard in the MWC.  Colorado St has a beast at RB with Alabama transfer Dee Hart, and they've still got a chip on their shoulder, even after handling in-state rival Colorado last year.  Jim McElwain is one helluva coach, and it looks like he may have this thing turned around.  Boise is still trying to answer questions after they got demolished by Ole Miss last weekend.  It wouldn't surprise me for Colorado St to win this game straight up.
