Week 7: Underdogs and letdowns
Last week was only 2-3, so I'm looking for a big week to put us back up. I've got some underdogs that I expect to win straight up this week, and those would help, along with a team that had a big win last week that could be in letdown spots.
1. Colorado St (-2.5) @ Nevada
Saturday 9:30pm CT | CBSSN
Colorado St has covered 3 straight, and 4 of 5, and they look like an absolute beast in the MWC this year. I think they'll be able to handle Nevada on the road, who just had a tough game against Boise St last weekend, but lost at home.
2. Penn St (+1.5) @ Michigan
Saturday 6:00pm CT | ESPN2
Michigan is currently a dumpster fire. They lost at Rutgers last week to put them at 2-4 on the year, and it looks like Hoke has completely lost this team. Penn St lost their first game of the year to Northwestern 2 weeks ago, and have had a week to recuperate, while Michigan just continues to lose confidence. Michigan fans aren't exactly going to be fired up for this, so screw homefield advantage in this case. I think James Franklin has his boys ready to play and they'll win in the Big House straight up.
3. Auburn @ Miss St (+3)
Saturday 2:30pm CT | CBS
Gameday's in town, and it's the biggest matchup probably in Mississippi St history. Didn't we see this last week in Oxford? Here's the deal though... Miss St is coming off probably one of the biggest wins in State history, and they didn't have to waste a bunch of emotion doing it. They absolutely hammered Texas A&M last week, rushing out to a 48-17 lead before giving up 2 late touchdowns with the backups in. Mississippi State is great against the run, and Auburn's forte is definitely not airing it out. So, strength vs strength. Look for MSU to take a page out of Kansas State's defensive playbook to play disciplined and slow down Auburn's game. On the other side, I don't think there's any answer for Dak Prescott. Auburn hasn't played anybody like Miss St this year, and State is on a roll. I think State wins straight up.
4. Ole Miss @ Texas A&M (-2.5)
Saturday 8pm CT | ESPN
Ole Miss had the biggest win in school history last week, and it took until the last play of the game to do it. This is the absolute biggest letdown spot, because they're going on the road to play a team in Texas A&M that was embarrassed by Miss St last week on the road. A&M will be looking to show that they're not as bad as they looked, and it's a home night game, while Ole Miss is coming off of a crazy emotional high from last week. Bo Wallace played a great game last week against Alabama, so this would be the spot where he'll throw a couple of interceptions in big spots. I don't think A&M blows them out... but I think they'll cover 2.5 for sure.
5. Houston @ Memphis (-7.5)
Saturday 6:00pm CT | CBSSN
Memphis absolutely destroyed Cinci on the road last week. Justin Fuente has this team rolling right now, and this will only be their 3rd home game of the year. Houston has been disappointing to this point
